- Dr. Pamela Ochungo is a geospatial scientist with a longstanding interest in the application of geospatial techniques to research and development projects with the aim of understanding complex interrelated processes.
- In December 2020 she was awarded a PhD in Conservation Ecology from Stellenbosch University, SA, whereby she was researching on the value of the agro-ecological landscape for honeybee colony strength in a semi-arid area in Kenya using Remote Sensing techniques as well as in-situ honeybee data collected longitudinally in Mwingi, Eastern Kenya. Her research was carried out at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) as a DAAD (German Academic Exchange) scholar.
- Furthermore, her MSc degree was attained at the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK where her dissertation examined the Use of Bayesian Belief Networks and Geo-Information Systems for Modelling Lucerne Fodder crop suitability in the Kenyan highlands. Her undergraduate degree was attained at the University of Nairobi at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geospatial and Space Technology.
- Pamela previously worked at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) for several years as a GIS Analyst before joining ICIPE as a PhD candidate.
- Dr. Pamela’s current interests include the use of open-source GIS and remote sensing platforms, as well as innovative machine learning classification algorithms. She is currently a lecturer at the Technical University of Kenya in the School of Surveying and Spatial Science (SSSS) and is also undertaking research at the British Institute in Eastern Africa whereby she is mapping archeological sites and monuments as well as the threats that are facing them within the MAEASaM project.
