- Mugo KIBATI has more than 30 years of experience in both the private and public sectors, in Kenya and the United States, having worked in oil and gas, banking, manufacturing, telecommunications, insurance, technology, and government. He has exceptional skills in communication, operations, financial management, team-building, and leveraging individual assets to reach business goals efficiently.
- He has a proven track record of transformative leadership, notably, at Telkom Kenya Limited (TKL), a technology company where he currently serves as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO); at Sanlam Kenya PLC, an insurance services provider also as its CEO; as the founding Director General at Kenya’s Vision 2030 Secretariat, a semi-autonomous government agency tasked with making Kenya a newly industrialising upper middle-income country by 2030; and the Group Managing Director/CEO at East African Cables PLC, a premier cable manufacturer, with a footprint that spreads across East and Central Africa.
- Mugo has extensive board experience, having chaired and been a member of various boards in East Africa for close to two decades, in various sectors including: banking, technology, insurance, and renewable energy. He is currently the chair of the Kenya Biovax Institute, a state corporation tasked with the manufacture, packaging and commercialisation of specialised health products and technologies, as well as the Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited, a wind farm that supplies renewable energy to Kenya’s national grid.
- Mugo, who has been recognised for his conscientious execution for results, consensus building, forging of partnerships, influencing upwards, advocacy, and lobbying in challenging contexts, is the recipient of presidential decorations (Kenya), namely the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) for his contribution to nation building. He has also received global recognition over the years, notably as Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum in 2008. He is a fellow at the Aspen Global Leadership Network, the African Leadership Initiative, the Kenya Institute of Management, and a member of the Institute of Directors of Kenya, and the Bretton Woods Committee.
- He holds an MSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), an MBA from George Washington University (USA), and a BTech in Electrical Engineering (Hons) from Moi University (Kenya).
