- Joan Chesoni LLB LLM is an experienced senior legal practitioner who has participated in regional and international thought leadership to advance the transformative force of well drafted legislation and policy frameworks.
- She is honoured to have received a Commendation from the Office of the Prime Minister for exemplary performance, commitment and patriotism at the National Taskforce on Development, Negotiation and Conclusion of the Special Status Agreement (SSA) between the Republic of Kenya and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia – that culminated in the successful signing of the Agreement by the Presidents of Kenya and Ethiopia on 21st November, 2012.
- Joan is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and earned her LLM from the prestigious Universiteit Leiden, Netherlands; one of Europe’s leading research and teaching universities, globally acclaimed as a world leader in the field of Air and Space Law. She has trained extensively in local, regional and international legal forums achieving excellence in the fields of Corporate Restructuring, Mergers and Acquisitions, Project Development and PPPs, Energy, Banking, Aviation, Air and Space Law, Risk and Compliance, Corporate Governance, Board Management, Diplomacy, Telecommunications and Media, and Intellectual Property law.
- Joan currently serves a Director on the Kenya Space Agency Board and was recently appointed by the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) as the international Space4Women Mentor 2023. In 2023, Joan was invited to be a Board Member of the International Space University Board of Trustees. Both assignments lean on her expertise as a transformation catalyst to improve access to and information in matters, air and space law.
- Her diverse experience across time zones and geographical borders, enables Joan to operate as a global catalyst for localising of global solutions to create positive impact locally. Joan is well travelled having visited more than 25 countries; working and collaborating with various regional and international organisations including the United Nations, East African Development Bank (EADB), African Union, African Development Bank (AfDB), GuarantCo, Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), East African Community (EAC), International Court of Justice (ICJ-The World Court), The Permanent Court of Arbitration Court (The Hague, Netherlands), IFC/World Bank, Air France and KLM.
- Joan is skillful and articulate with the ability to see beyond borders, into a future where our planet’s development depends on the ability of her people to effectively collaborate, to cohesively implement laws that protect the environment, enhance trade and infrastructure initiatives, whilst promoting the wellbeing of earth’s inhabitants.
