- Dr. Olwendo received his Ph.D. in Space Physics under the supervision of Prof. Paul Baki from Pwani University in 2015.
- His research was on Equatorial Ionospheric Electrodynamics and Ionospheric effects on GNSS signals. He worked with scientists from South African National Space Agency during the period 2010-2013.
- From 2015 to 2019, he did his postdoctoral research at ICTP- Italy where he was appointed as a JUNIOR ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST. He worked with NeQuick 2 model research group under Prof. Sandro Radicella.
- He has published more than 30 papers in the field of space weather and Ionospheric effects on GNSS signals. He has organized a series of Schools and workshops for participants mainly from Africa in the fields of Space Weather and Ionospheric Research that he directs in Kenya or at the ICTP in Italy since 2019.
- He was recognized for his contribution in the understanding of equatorial Ionospheric dynamics and plasma processes and was awarded by the American Geophysical Union an early career award in SUN-EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE IN 2016.
- He was a recipient of the Young distinguished scientist award of Union of Radio Science Atlantic in 2015. He is currently the Principal investigator on Ionospheric Scintillation and space environment specification and maintains a Space Weather and Ionospheric Research Laboratory at Pwani University.
- He aims to establish a vibrant space weather research team in Kenya.
